All MIBs › USR-SNMP-MIB
Organization: CommWorks Corporation, a 3Com Company
Last Updated: 2002-05-05
Category: CommWorks/3Com Access Equipment
Description: Manages SNMP agent configuration, trap destinations, and community strings on CommWorks/3Com equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is USR-SNMP-MIB?
USR-SNMP-MIB is a legacy U.S. Robotics/CommWorks (later 3Com) enterprise MIB governing configuration of the device's own SNMP agent process. It exposes configuration data for the SNMP subsystem itself -- trap destination addresses, community strings, and related agent-process settings -- rather than broader device hardware or traffic data. Its monitoring value is narrow but specific to software status: confirming the SNMP agent is configured with correct trap receivers and community strings effectively verifies the management plane itself is healthy and correctly provisioned, rather than reporting on physical hardware sensors. It is a self-contained legacy enterprise MIB under the commWorks/USR OID branch, predating and partly overlapping in function with the standard SNMP-COMMUNITY-MIB and SNMP-TARGET-MIB. It is deployed on legacy U.S. Robotics/CommWorks/3Com dial-access or networking equipment for remotely managing the device's own SNMP configuration. Engineers can download the USR-SNMP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in USR-SNMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- U.S. Robotics/CommWorks/3Com networking or dial-access equipment
Monitoring Examples
No specific object or table names were supplied for this module in the source, so a concrete polling example cannot be grounded in real identifiers. Based on its stated purpose, an operator would typically read or set community-string and trap-destination objects to confirm which management stations receive traps from the device, revealing a misconfigured or missing trap receiver if alerts aren't reaching the NMS.
What Can Be Monitored
- configured trap destination addresses
- SNMP community string configuration
- SNMP agent process settings
