usrSnmpCommValidateAddress

Module: USR-SNMP-MIB

OID (symbolic): USR-SNMP-MIB::usrSnmpCommValidateAddress

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.429.4.5.3.1.9

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: If this object is set to use_address(1), the value of usrSnmpCommIpAddr will be used to validate that the management station is allowed access. If this object is set to use_pool(2), the IP address of the management station will be validate using the list of IP addresses configured for the usrSnmpCommPoolName.

What is usrSnmpCommValidateAddress?

This selects whether this SNMP community validates the requesting manager's IP against the single address in usrSnmpCommIpAddr or against every address in the pool named in usrSnmpCommPoolName. An admin cares because it determines the access-control model for the community: a strict single-host check versus a flexible multi-host pool check. For example, setting this to use the pool option lets the community accept requests from any address in that pool instead of only the one address configured directly on the entry.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.429.4.5.3.1.9
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> USR-SNMP-MIB::usrSnmpCommValidateAddress

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.429.4.5.3.1.9.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> USR-SNMP-MIB::usrSnmpCommValidateAddress.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.429.4.5.3.1.9.1 i <value>

SNMPv3 example:

snmpget -v3 -l authPriv -u snmpv3-user -a SHA -A "AuthPassword1" -x AES -X "PrivPassword1" <target> usrSnmpCommValidateAddress.1
