Description: Manages Trapeze Networks WLAN trap event log entries, history retention, and log query access.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TRAPEZE-NETWORKS-TRAPLOG-MIB?

TRAPEZE-NETWORKS-TRAPLOG-MIB is a Trapeze Networks (later acquired by Juniper) enterprise MIB for wireless LAN Access Controllers (wireless switches), providing an in-device historical log of SNMP trap/notification events. It exposes data categories such as the oldest and newest trap indices, trap timestamps, a table of logged trap entries with their notification IDs and variable counts, and a companion variable table holding the actual varbind data for each logged trap. This is primarily a fault/event monitoring MIB: it lets an operator retrospectively retrieve recent alarm and event history from the access controller even if a trap receiver momentarily missed a live trap, effectively acting as a black-box recorder for device fault conditions. It depends conceptually on whatever other Trapeze MIBs define the actual notification types being logged, since this MIB itself only stores generic references to notifications and does not define the events. It is deployed in enterprise wireless network monitoring, typically alongside a wireless LAN controller managing access points, and administrators can download the TRAPEZE-NETWORKS-TRAPLOG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TRAPEZE-NETWORKS-TRAPLOG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Trapeze Networks wireless LAN Access Controller
  • Juniper (formerly Trapeze) wireless switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll trpzTraplogNewestTrapIndex and trpzTraplogNewestTrapDateAndTime to detect that a new event was logged since the last poll, then walk trpzTraplogTrapTable/trpzTraplogTrapEntry to retrieve trpzTraplogTrapNotificationID and trpzTraplogTrapNumVars for each entry. The associated trpzTraplogVarTable holds the actual variable-binding values recorded for each trap occurrence. If trpzTraplogOldestTrapIndex advances rapidly, it signals the log is wrapping quickly due to a burst of events (e.g., repeated AP disassociations), indicating an underlying fault worth investigating.

What Can Be Monitored

  • oldest/newest trap log index
  • trap timestamps
  • trap notification ID
  • trap variable count
  • logged trap variable bindings
