Description: Manages Transition Networks entity sensor values, type, and threshold configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB?

TN-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB is a Transition Networks proprietary SNMP module extending environmental sensor monitoring for power supply and fan modules on their switch/media-converter hardware. It exposes sensor extension attributes (relay installed/enabled, module type, operational mode) and configurable alarm thresholds (severity, relational operator, threshold value) for sensor readings. This is explicitly a hardware health MIB: it lets an operator monitor power supply and fan module presence and operational state, and configure threshold-based alarms so the device raises a notification if a sensor reading crosses a defined severity threshold. It extends the standard IETF ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB, adding Transition Networks-specific relay and threshold configuration on top of the base sensor object model. It is deployed on Transition Networks managed switches and media converters, including in industrial/harsh-environment deployments where power and cooling health monitoring matters. Engineers can download the TN-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Transition Networks managed Ethernet switches
  • Transition Networks media converters with power/fan monitoring

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls tnEntSensorExtTable/tnEntSensorExtEntry to check tnEntSensorExtModuleType and tnEntSensorExtOperMode for a power supply or fan module, confirming it reports as operational. The tnEntSensorThresholdTable/tnEntSensorThresholdEntry rows define alarm conditions (tnEntSensorThresholdSeverity, tnEntSensorThresholdRelation, tnEntSensorThresholdValue) per sensor index, so a fan-speed or temperature sensor crossing its configured threshold generates a tnEntitySensorMIBNotifications trap. Checking tnEntSensorExtRelayEnabled/tnEntSensorExtRelayInstalled confirms whether an external alarm relay is available to physically signal a hardware fault condition.

What Can Be Monitored

  • power supply and fan module operational status
  • sensor threshold alarm configuration (severity, value)
  • external alarm relay installed/enabled state
