Description: Manages Transition Networks STP, RSTP, and MSTP spanning tree configuration and port roles.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TN-XSTP-MIB?
TN-XSTP-MIB is a Transition Networks vendor extension MIB that augments the standard spanning-tree MIBs to manage Common Spanning Tree, Rapid STP, and Multiple STP (MSTP) behavior on Transition Networks' managed Ethernet switches. It exposes configuration data such as per-instance MSTP CIST (Common and Internal Spanning Tree) parameters, VLAN-to-MSTI mapping bitmaps, and per-port CIST settings, along with notification objects for spanning-tree events. Administrators use it to monitor and control loop-prevention behavior in the switch's software, including BPDU filtering and BPDU guard status and port recovery timeout after an error condition, revealing whether ports are protected from, or have been shut down due to, spanning-tree violations. As an extension MIB it has a direct dependency on the IEEE 802.1 standard bridge/spanning-tree MIBs that it supplements rather than replaces. It is typically deployed on Transition Networks managed Ethernet switches in industrial or enterprise LANs requiring loop protection. Engineers can download the TN-XSTP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-XSTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Transition Networks managed Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An admin would query tnExtMstpCistPortTable/tnExtMstpCistEntry to check per-port CIST role and state, and inspect tnExtMstpCistBpduGuard together with tnExtMstpCistRecoveryTimeout to see whether a port was disabled after an unexpected BPDU and how long before it recovers. Walking tnExtMstpTable/tnExtMstpEntry with the tnExtMstpVids0-3 bitmap fields shows which VLANs map to each MSTP instance, useful for verifying a VLAN was correctly assigned after a configuration change. Unexpected values in tnExtMstpCistBpduFiltering would explain why a port isn't participating in spanning tree at all.
What Can Be Monitored
- MSTP/CIST port role and state
- BPDU filtering status
- BPDU guard status
- port error-recovery timeout
- VLAN-to-MSTI instance mapping
