What Is TRANSITION-SMI?
TRANSITION-SMI defines the Structure of Management Information for Transition Networks, a vendor of Ethernet media converters, industrial switches, and fiber-optic networking devices, establishing the enterprise OID hierarchy (including product-family nodes like tnIONPlatform, tnCESwitches, tnIndSwitches, and tnPBSwitches) under which all Transition Networks MIBs register. Beyond the bare product registration nodes (productId, products), it carries no interface, environment, performance, or configuration data of its own. It is therefore not directly used to monitor uptime, temperature, CPU/memory load, power/fan health, or software version — those are exposed by the individual Transition Networks product MIBs (for IONPlatform media converters, carrier-Ethernet switches, industrial switches, or point-to-multipoint switches) that hang off this OID tree. Every Transition Networks device MIB depends structurally on this SMI module being loaded first. Loading the TRANSITION-SMI file is a prerequisite step before any Transition Networks product MIB can be compiled, since it defines the enterprise OID hierarchy those modules depend on. It is used purely as a foundational/dependency MIB loaded alongside the vendor's product-specific MIBs when managing Transition Networks equipment.

Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples
The available sample_objects (productId, products, tnIONPlatform, tnCESwitches, tnIndSwitches, tnPBSwitches) are all OID-registration nodes identifying Transition Networks product families, not runtime data — there are no counters or status values to poll here. An admin managing a specific IONPlatform media converter or PBSwitch would instead query the product-specific MIB registered under, e.g., the tnIONPlatform or tnPBSwitches subtree.
