What Is TIMETRA-IF-GROUP-HANDLER-MIB?

TIMETRA-IF-GROUP-HANDLER-MIB is a proprietary Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia SROS MIB (for the 7750 SR family) that manages the Interface Group Handler feature, which groups multiple interfaces together and applies threshold-based administrative control across them. It exposes configuration and state data including a group handler's admin status, a failure/event threshold, a last-changed timestamp, and per-protocol handler status within the group. It is used to monitor the operational control state of interface groupings — specifically whether a group has been administratively brought down because member interface failures crossed a configured threshold, functioning as an aggregated interface-health monitoring mechanism. It builds on Alcatel-Lucent's proprietary TIMETRA-TC-MIB conventions layered over standard interface (IF-MIB) concepts. It is deployed on Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR and related SROS-based routers in service-provider core and edge networks, and a TIMETRA-IF-GROUP-HANDLER-MIB download supplies the object definitions needed to track group-handler threshold state on those platforms.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-IF-GROUP-HANDLER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR
  • 7450 ESS routers

Monitoring Examples

tmnxIfGroupHandlerConfigTable and tmnxIfGroupHandlerConfigEntry expose tmnxIfGroupHandlerAdminStatus and tmnxIfGroupHandlerThreshold per tmnxIfGroupHandlerIndex, letting an operator confirm whether a group of interfaces has been shut down because member failures exceeded the configured threshold. tmnxIfGroupHandlerProtoTable further reports per-protocol handler status via tmnxIfGroupHdlrProtoStatus, and tmnxIfGroupHandlerTimeStamp reveals exactly when the last state change occurred, useful for correlating a group shutdown with a specific network event.

What Can Be Monitored

  • interface group handler admin status
  • group handler failure threshold
  • last state-change timestamp
  • per-protocol handler status
  • row/config status

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using tmnxIfGroupHdlrProtoStatus OID:

Select a Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR/7450 ESS router (interface-group threshold-triggered admin-control status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type tmnxIfGroupHdlrProtoStatus into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The tmnxIfGroupHdlrProtoStatus indicates the operational state of the protocol for the Interface Group Handler. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'up', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
