Description: Manages Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR chassis interconnect fabric configuration and status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TIMETRA-CHASSIS-INTERCONNECT-MIB?

This MIB is a Nokia (formerly Alcatel-Lucent) proprietary module for the 7750 SR / SROS family of service routers, covering the interconnect fabric that links separate chassis together in a multi-chassis configuration. It exposes configuration and status data for the interconnect ports on both the Control Processor Module (CPM) and Switch Fabric Module (SFM), including port numbering and SFF (small form-factor pluggable) transceiver presence. It is explicitly useful for monitoring the hardware health of the interconnect links, most notably the operational state of each interconnect port and whether the SFF module is equipped and functioning, which flags failed or missing transceivers before they cause a fabric outage. As a Nokia SROS-specific extension it depends on the broader chassis and textual-convention MIB framework used across the Timetra suite. It's typically deployed in high-capacity multi-chassis 7750 SR / 7950 XRS core router installations where redundant fabric interconnects must be continuously monitored for availability, and engineers can get the TIMETRA-CHASSIS-INTERCONNECT-MIB download to load directly into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-CHASSIS-INTERCONNECT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR
  • 7950 XRS multi-chassis service router

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll tmnxCpmIcPortTable and tmnxSfmIcPortTable, indexed by tmnxCpmIcPortNum / tmnxSfmIcPortNum, to check tmnxCpmIcPortOperState and tmnxSfmIcPortOperState for each interconnect port. Correlating tmnxCpmIcPortSFFEquipped with tmnxCpmIcPortSFFStatus reveals whether a given port has a transceiver installed and whether it is reporting a fault, letting an admin catch a degraded or unseated SFF before the interconnect link between chassis drops. tmnxChassisInterconNotifyPrefix roots the traps issued when an interconnect port's state changes.

What Can Be Monitored

  • interconnect port operational state
  • SFF transceiver presence
  • SFF transceiver status
  • CPM interconnect port number
  • SFM interconnect port number

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using tmnxSfmIcPortDegradeState OID:

Select a Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR/7950 XRS multi-chassis router (interconnect port/SFF transceiver status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type tmnxSfmIcPortDegradeState into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The value of tmnxSfmIcPortDegradeState indicates degradation of the switch fabric that is carried over a particular SFM interconnect port. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'none', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
