What Is TIMETRA-DOT3-OAM-MIB?

This MIB module is part of Alcatel-Lucent's (now Nokia's) TIMETRA enterprise tree for the 7750 SR and related SROS-based routers, extending the standard IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet OAM (DOT3-OAM-MIB) with vendor-specific transmit-interval and configuration options. It exposes Ethernet OAM link-monitoring data, including per-interface OAM peer/session tables and loopback-test tables, letting operators track OAM state and run remote-loopback diagnostics on Ethernet links. It is used to monitor link-layer software/protocol status, such as OAM session establishment, loopback test results, and configured OAM parameters, as a way of detecting Ethernet link faults on first-mile access connections rather than higher-layer traffic performance. It explicitly extends the IEEE 802.3ah DOT3-OAM-MIB standard, adding Alcatel-Lucent SROS-specific configuration on top of that base standard. It is deployed on Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia 7750 SR and related SROS routers used as carrier Ethernet access or aggregation devices. Engineers can download the TIMETRA-DOT3-OAM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-DOT3-OAM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia 7750 SR (SROS router)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll the tmnxDot3OamTable to confirm OAM discovery has completed and the peer's OAM capabilities are as expected on a given Ethernet access interface. The tmnxDot3OamLoopbackTable would be used to initiate and check the result of a remote loopback test, a standard technique for isolating whether a fault lies on the local or remote side of an Ethernet first-mile link. tmnxDot3OamEntryObjs exposes the vendor-specific transmit-interval and other tuning parameters layered on top of the base IEEE 802.3ah OAM behavior, letting an engineer confirm non-default OAM timers are correctly applied.

What Can Be Monitored

  • Ethernet OAM session/discovery state
  • remote loopback test status
  • OAM transmit interval configuration
  • 802.3ah link fault indications
