Description: Manages Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR TWAMP test session configuration and measurement results.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TIMETRA-TWAMP-MIB?

This is a Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent (Timetra/SROS) MIB module for managing and monitoring TWAMP (Two-Way Active Measurement Protocol, RFC 5357) test sessions on 7750 SR and related Alcatel-Lucent SROS routers. It exposes TWAMP server configuration objects such as administrative state, inactivity timeout, and maximum connections/sessions, plus a table of allowed client-address prefixes with their own row status and last-changed timestamps, supporting active network performance measurement rather than passive counters. It is used to monitor the software-level operational status of the TWAMP measurement service, including whether the server is administratively enabled and how close current usage is to configured connection/session limits, a direct software-health and capacity indicator for the measurement feature. It explicitly implements and depends on the IETF TWAMP standard (RFC 5357). It is deployed on Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia 7750 SR service routers used for active latency/loss measurement between network endpoints, monitored by service providers verifying SLA compliance. Engineers can download the TIMETRA-TWAMP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-TWAMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR service router (SROS)

Monitoring Examples

An operator checks tmnxTwampSrvAdminState to confirm the TWAMP server is enabled, and compares current usage against tmnxTwampSrvMaxConnections and tmnxTwampSrvMaxSessions to see whether the router is near its measurement-session capacity. The tmnxTwampSrvPrefixTable/tmnxTwampSrvPrefixEntry rows, keyed by tmnxTwampSrvPrefixAddrType/tmnxTwampSrvPrefixAddr/tmnxTwampSrvPrefixLen, show which client address ranges are permitted to originate TWAMP sessions, with tmnxTwampSrvPrefixRowStatus and tmnxTwampSrvPrefixLastChg used to audit recent provisioning changes; tmnxTwampSrvInactTimeout governs how quickly idle sessions are torn down.

What Can Be Monitored

  • TWAMP server admin state
  • active connections/sessions vs. maximum
  • inactivity timeout
  • allowed client address prefixes
  • prefix provisioning changes

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using tmnxTwampSrvUpTime OID:

Select a Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR service router (SROS) (TWAMP server admin/session-capacity status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type tmnxTwampSrvUpTime into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The value of tmnxTwampSrvUpTime indicates the time elapsed, in seconds, since the most recent transition of tmnxTwampSrvOperState to 'inService(2)'. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is unexpectedly low (e.g. under 10 minutes), since that indicates a recent, possibly unplanned, reboot or restart. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
