Description: Manages Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR BFD session configuration and protocol state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TIMETRA-BFD-MIB?

TIMETRA-BFD-MIB is a proprietary Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia SROS MIB (Timetra being the legacy internal name for the 7750 SR platform) used to configure and monitor Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD), a protocol for rapid failure detection between routers. It exposes BFD template configuration (timers, multiplier, echo interval) and operational session-state objects reflecting the live status of BFD sessions on the router. It supports monitoring of protocol/software status rather than hardware; administrators use it to confirm that BFD templates are correctly applied and that sessions are up with the intended aggressive timers, since a misconfigured timer can materially delay failover detection. It builds on the general BFD concept standardized in IETF RFCs, though the object definitions themselves are Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia proprietary. It is typically deployed on Nokia 7750 SR and related SROS routers in service-provider networks where fast link/node failure detection is required for MPLS or routing protocol convergence. Engineers can download the TIMETRA-BFD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-BFD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR series router (SROS)

Monitoring Examples

tmnxBfdAdminTemplateTable/Entry defines BFD templates with tmnxBfdAdminTemplateTxInt, tmnxBfdAdminTemplateRxInt, and tmnxBfdAdminTemplateMultiplier; an admin checks tmnxBfdAdminTemplateRowStatus to confirm a template is active and cross-references tmnxBfdOperObjects for the actual negotiated timers on a session. This reveals whether a critical link is really running with the intended aggressive BFD timers or has silently fallen back to slower defaults, which would delay failover detection.

What Can Be Monitored

  • BFD template transmit/receive intervals
  • BFD multiplier
  • BFD template row status
  • BFD session operational state
  • echo function receive interval
