Description: Monitors Sonus Networks softswitch node hardware resources including CPU, memory, and module inventory.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SONUS-NODE-RESOURCES-MIB?

SONUS-NODE-RESOURCES-MIB is a vendor MIB from Sonus Networks covering hardware and service-profile resource management on their softswitch/media gateway node platforms. It exposes service profile configuration objects defining voice circuit/packet encoding parameters (bandwidth, network echo cancellation enable, frame size) as well as tone-related resource objects and broader node resource inventory under sonusNodeResourcesMIBObjects. This MIB supports monitoring of software/service-level status such as service profile state and configuration, which indirectly reflects the health of underlying hardware voice/media processing resources (e.g., DSP-based codec and echo-cancellation resources) on the node. It works in conjunction with other Sonus platform MIBs such as SONUS-ALARM-CONTACT-MIB and SONUS-EVENT-LOG-MIB to give a fuller picture of node hardware and fault status, and depends on the common SONUS-SMI enterprise root. Typical deployment context is carrier VoIP/TDM softswitch and gateway nodes where service profiles govern how voice circuits are encoded and how DSP resources are allocated. Engineers can download the SONUS-NODE-RESOURCES-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SONUS-NODE-RESOURCES-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Sonus Networks (Ribbon Communications) softswitch/media gateway node

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll sonusServProfileTable/sonusServProfileEntry to check sonusServProfileState for each configured profile, confirming it is active, and inspect sonusServProfileVCktEncoding/sonusServProfileVPktEncoding to verify the correct codec is applied to circuit- and packet-side legs. Monitoring sonusServProfileVCktBandwidth and sonusServProfileVCktNecEnable would reveal whether echo cancellation and bandwidth allocation match the expected call quality configuration. An unexpected sonusServProfileState transition to a disabled or fault state would indicate a resource allocation problem affecting call processing on that node.

What Can Be Monitored

  • service profile operational state
  • voice circuit/packet codec encoding
  • echo cancellation settings
  • circuit bandwidth allocation
  • node resource inventory
