What Is SONUS-TC?
SONUS-TC is a textual-conventions module published by Sonus Networks (a softswitch and VoIP/media gateway vendor, later part of Ribbon Communications) defining shared enumerated types and data conventions used consistently across the full suite of Sonus enterprise MIB modules. It does not itself define scalars or tables; rather it standardizes value types such as status enumerations, alarm severities, or protocol-state codes that the vendor's functional MIBs reuse when reporting softswitch call-processing, trunk, and system status. Its contribution to hardware/software status monitoring is indirect but foundational: it ensures that status values reported elsewhere for softswitch hardware health, call session state, or trunk/interface status are interpreted consistently by management stations. As a textual-conventions module it is a dependency consumed by, rather than dependent on, the other Sonus product MIBs (e.g. those covering the softswitch's call agent, media gateway, or signaling gateway functions). It is deployed as a prerequisite whenever an NMS compiles any Sonus Networks softswitch or media gateway MIB, and administrators typically obtain the SONUS-TC MIB file directly from the vendor before loading those dependent modules.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SONUS-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Sonus Networks / Ribbon Communications softswitch and media-gateway platforms, entire product line (shared textual conventions)
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were extracted, consistent with this being a pure textual-conventions module with no runtime scalars or tables to poll directly. An admin would never query SONUS-TC itself, but an NMS must successfully compile it before loading dependent Sonus MIBs that report on softswitch call state, trunk group status, or media gateway hardware alarms. Its practical value is guaranteeing consistent decoding of enumerated status codes across the whole Sonus product family.
