Category: Sonus Networks VoIP Softswitch, Textual Conventions and SMI
Description: Defines Sonus Networks enterprise SMI OID tree structure and product-level namespace organization.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SONUS-SMI?
SONUS-SMI is the Structure of Management Information module for Sonus Networks (a VoIP softswitch/SBC vendor, later Ribbon Communications), defining the enterprise OID tree and product-level namespace under which all other Sonus MIB modules (node, SONET, etc.) place their objects. Every object defined in a downstream Sonus module ultimately resolves to a SONUS-SMI OID, anchoring the vendor's entire product namespace to this single root. As a pure SMI/namespace module it defines no runtime data objects of its own — it exists to allocate and organize object identifier branches for Sonus product lines. Its role in monitoring is therefore purely structural: it underlies and is imported by the actual monitoring MIBs (like SONUS-NODE-MIB and SONUS-SONET-MIB) that expose hardware/software status such as shelf state, SONET alarms, and management connectivity. Every other Sonus enterprise MIB depends on this module for its top-level OID assignments, making it a foundational dependency across the entire Sonus MIB family. It is present in any deployment of Sonus/Ribbon softswitch equipment as the namespace root rather than a source of monitored values.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SONUS-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Sonus Networks / Ribbon Communications softswitch and media-gateway platforms, entire product line (base enterprise OID registration)
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were provided, and as a pure SMI/OID-tree module it defines no monitorable tables or scalars — it only establishes the enterprise namespace that other Sonus MIBs (e.g., SONUS-NODE-MIB) build upon.
Imported Objects
From SNMPv2-SMI
