Category: Sonus Networks VoIP Softswitch

Description: Handles node platform configuration, chassis identity, and system parameters for the Sonus Networks softswitch.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SONUS-NODE-MIB?

SONUS-NODE-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Sonus Networks (a VoIP/softswitch and session border controller vendor, later part of Ribbon Communications) for managing the overall node/chassis platform of their softswitch systems. It exposes chassis- and shelf-level configuration and status, including shelf administrative state, IP addressing for shelf management interfaces, and system-wide management parameters like Telnet login control. For hardware/software status monitoring it tracks shelf presence and state (sonusNodeStatShelvesPresent, sonusNodeShelfAdmnState), management connectivity status (sonusNodeStatMgmtStatus), and power-related state such as sonusNodeShelfAdmn48VdcAState, giving visibility into the physical shelf's power and administrative health. It is part of the broader SONUS-SMI enterprise MIB family and depends on that root OID structure and shared Sonus textual conventions. It is deployed by carriers and service providers operating Sonus softswitch/media gateway nodes in telecom network cores, where engineers can complete a SONUS-NODE-MIB download to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SONUS-NODE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Sonus Networks softswitch/media gateway node

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll sonusNodeShelfAdmnTable/sonusNodeShelfAdmnEntry (indexed by sonusNodeShelfAdmnIndex) to check sonusNodeShelfAdmnState for each shelf and confirm sonusNodeShelfAdmnIpaddr1/sonusNodeShelfAdmnIpaddr2 management IPs are reachable, while sonusNodeShelfAdmn48VdcAState reveals whether the shelf's -48VDC power feed A is healthy. sonusNodeStatShelvesPresent versus the configured sonusNodeAdmnShelves count would flag a shelf that has gone missing or failed to report in, and sonusNodeStatMgmtStatus indicates whether the management plane itself is functioning.

What Can Be Monitored

  • shelf administrative and presence state
  • shelf management IP reachability
  • 48VDC power feed status
  • overall management status
  • Telnet login configuration
