Category: Sonus Networks VoIP Softswitch

Description: Manages Sonus Networks softswitch IP interface configuration, link status, and network parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SONUS-IP-INTERFACE-MIB?

SONUS-IP-INTERFACE-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Sonus Networks that manages IP interface configuration on its softswitches and media gateways, including network-layer addressing and physical chassis placement. It exposes an interface table describing each interface's name, type, IP address/mask, MTU, and the shelf/slot on which it resides. Monitoring this MIB reveals the operational status of the device's network-facing hardware interfaces, letting an administrator confirm addressing, MTU, and interface type per physical card, which is key to detecting interface misconfiguration or a fault on a specific shelf/slot. It shares shelf/slot addressing conventions with other Sonus MIBs (such as the redundancy and system timing MIBs), indicating an interlocking family of vendor modules rather than reliance on standard IF-MIB alone. It is deployed in carrier-grade Sonus softswitch/gateway chassis composed of multiple shelves and slots. Engineers can download the SONUS-IP-INTERFACE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SONUS-IP-INTERFACE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Sonus Networks softswitch
  • Sonus media gateway chassis

Monitoring Examples

Polling sonusNifTable/sonusNifEntry lets an admin retrieve sonusNifIpAddress, sonusNifIpMask, and sonusNifMtu per interface, keyed by sonusNifShelf and sonusNifSlot, revealing exactly which physical card hosts a given IP interface. sonusNifType indicates the interface's function (e.g., signaling vs. media), and an unexpected change in sonusNifMtu or a missing entry in sonusNifTable after a card reboot would indicate an interface configuration problem or hardware fault on that shelf/slot.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IP address and subnet mask per interface
  • interface MTU
  • interface type
  • shelf and slot location of interfaces
  • interface naming/index
