Description: MIB for on-demand port loopback tests and diagnostics on Smartoptics SiteLight optical networking equipment
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SL-TESTS-MIB?
SL-TESTS-MIB is a vendor MIB from Smartoptics providing on-demand diagnostic loopback testing for interfaces on its SiteLight optical transport platform, letting operators trigger and read back the results of test loopbacks without needing separate test equipment. It defines a table of loopback test instances per interface, covering test type, mode, duration, and outcome. Its monitoring role is diagnostic rather than continuous telemetry: slTestsIfLoopStatus and slTestsIfLoopResult report whether a triggered loopback test is running or complete and whether it passed or failed, slTestsIfLoopErrors counts errors detected during the test, and slTestsIfLoopPassedSeconds shows how much of the test duration completed cleanly — useful for isolating a faulty span of fiber or a suspect line card. A trap (slTestsTrapsLoopbackActive) notifies when a loopback is active, which is important operationally since a loopback interrupts normal traffic. It is part of the SiteLight family and is used during commissioning or fault isolation on SiteLight optical transport links. Engineers can download the SL-TESTS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SL-TESTS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Smartoptics SiteLight optical transport platform
Monitoring Examples
A technician sets slTestsIfLoopType and slTestsIfLoopMode on slTestsIfLoopTable/slTestsIfLoopEntry indexed by slTestsIfLoopIfIndex, sets slTestsIfLoopDuration, and then polls slTestsIfLoopStatus to watch the test progress and slTestsIfLoopResult once it completes. A nonzero slTestsIfLoopErrors count together with a low slTestsIfLoopPassedSeconds relative to the configured duration would indicate the interface or its fiber path is faulty, while the slTestsTrapsLoopbackActive trap reminds other operators that the port is currently in loopback and not passing live traffic.
What Can Be Monitored
- loopback test status
- loopback test result (pass/fail)
- error count during test
- test duration and passed seconds
- active loopback notification
