Description: Manages Shiva remote access server communication port configuration and dial-up session state.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SHIVA-COMM-MIB?
SHIVA-COMM-MIB is a private enterprise MIB from Shiva Corporation for managing communication port configuration and dial-up session state on Shiva remote access servers. It is expected to expose per-port configuration (line speed, modem/dial parameters) and session-state information (active call/session status) for the device's communication ports, consistent with its role as the comm-port counterpart to Shiva's IP-focused MIB. Its monitoring value centers on the software/session status of dial-up ports -- confirming whether a given port has an active call, and its configured communication parameters -- functioning as a form of process/service status monitoring for the RAS's port pool. It depends on Shiva's private enterprise conventions and likely complements standard RS-232/modem MIB concepts rather than a specific IETF standard. It was deployed on legacy Shiva remote-access servers providing dial-up connectivity in enterprise remote-access environments. Engineers can download the SHIVA-COMM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SHIVA-COMM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples
Only the IMPORTS clause was available in this source with no concrete object or table names, so a specific polling scenario cannot be responsibly constructed; in general, an admin managing a Shiva RAS would expect to check per-port session/call status to identify hung or disconnected dial-up ports.
