What Is SCA-X25EXT-MIB?

SCA-X25EXT-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module from Securicor (SCA), an X.25 WAN equipment vendor, extending standard X.25 management with additional per-circuit parameters for routers/gateways carrying X.25 traffic. It exposes a circuit-level table (x25extCircuitTable) covering virtual circuit identification, packet and window size negotiation, timeout settings, and circuit reset/flow-control counters. While primarily a protocol/configuration MIB, it supports monitoring the operational health of X.25 virtual circuits — reset counts and flow-control "stuck" resets act as fault indicators, revealing circuits that are flapping or congested. It extends the standard X.25 Packet Layer MIB (RFC 1382/2127) rather than replacing it. It is typically deployed on legacy WAN routers/X.25 packet switches/gateways still carrying X.25 traffic in telecom or financial-transaction networks. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the SCA-X25EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SCA-X25EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Securicor X.25 WAN router/gateway

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll x25extCircuitTable/x25extCircuitEntry rows indexed by x25extCircuitIndex and x25extCircuitChannel to see per-virtual-circuit x25extCircuitPacketSize and x25extCircuitWindowSize negotiated values, cross-checking against x25extCircuitLogicalIndex for logical channel mapping. Rising x25extCircuitOutResets or x25extCircuitOutFlowStuckResets counts on a given circuit would flag a flow-control problem or unstable peer, prompting investigation before the circuit drops. x25extCircuitTimeout lets the admin confirm the configured idle/response timeout matches expectations for that link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • X.25 virtual circuit packet/window size
  • circuit reset counts
  • flow-control stuck resets
  • circuit timeout setting
