Category: Securicor WAN Router Management, WAN and Routing

Description: Manages Securicor Arisoft WAN router IPX routing configuration and network reachability.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SCA-IPX-MIB?

SCA-IPX-MIB is a proprietary MIB from Securicor Arisoft, covering IPX (Internetwork Packet Exchange, Novell's legacy routed protocol) routing and traffic statistics on Securicor Arisoft WAN routers. It exposes per-router counters for IPX traffic flow: transmitted and received packets (total, multicast, broadcast), forwarded and locally-destined packets, and error conditions like filtered, unknown, discarded, or checksum-failed packets. Its main use is performance and fault monitoring of the IPX routing function — administrators can spot traffic anomalies, packet loss, or protocol errors indicating a misbehaving IPX network segment or routing misconfiguration. It parallels the general spirit of IETF IPX MIB work but is independently defined for this vendor's routers. It would have been deployed in WAN environments during the era when Novell NetWare/IPX was a common enterprise LAN protocol requiring routing across serial/WAN links. Engineers can download the SCA-IPX-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SCA-IPX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Securicor Arisoft WAN routers

Monitoring Examples

An operator would compare ipxCntRxTotal against ipxCntBadChksum and ipxCntDiscarded to determine what fraction of received IPX traffic is being dropped due to corruption, and compare ipxCntForward with ipxCntFiltered to see how much traffic is being blocked by filtering policy versus successfully routed. A spike in ipxCntUnknown alongside a steady ipxCntRxTotal would suggest IPX traffic destined for unrecognized networks, hinting at a routing table or SAP configuration problem.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IPX transmit/receive packet counts
  • multicast/broadcast IPX traffic
  • forwarded vs. filtered/discarded packets
  • checksum error counts
