tCommunityAccess

Module: SHIVA-COMM-MIB

OID (symbolic): SHIVA-COMM-MIB::tCommunityAccess

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.166.4.4.5.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: This defines the privilege of the community. A 'read-only' community can examine any readable variable. A 'clear-statistics' community can reset non-critical counters. A 'configure' community has complete privileges. By setting the community access to 'no-access', a management station can deny all access by that community.

What is tCommunityAccess?

This read-write enumerated value sets the privilege level granted to requests using the associated community name, choosing among no-access, read-only-access, clear-statistics, or configure. An admin uses this to tier SNMP access: a read-only community can examine any readable variable, a clear-statistics community can additionally reset non-critical counters, a configure community has full privileges, and no-access denies that community entirely. For example, setting tCommunityAccess to no-access(1) on a legacy community effectively revokes that community's ability to query or modify the device without deleting the row outright.
