Category: Avaya BayStack Token Ring

Description: Manages BayStack Token Ring port configuration, counters, and ring operational status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is S5-TOKENRING-MIB?

S5-TOKENRING-MIB is a Bay Networks/SynOptics (S5, 'Series 5000') proprietary MIB reporting Token Ring status, built on the shared S5-ROOT-MIB/S5-TCS-MIB platform SMI. Its ring-information table, aggregating data from multiple internal sources, records ring number, active station count, station-table size, ring state, beacon sender/type/NAUN and last-beacon time, active monitor, and counts of ring purges, beacon events, and monitor-contention events, alongside a per-station detail table. As a hardware/protocol-status MIB it lets an administrator diagnose Token Ring instability by watching beacon events and monitor-contention counts. It is deployed on Bay Networks/SynOptics S5000-series Token Ring hardware. Engineers can download the S5-TOKENRING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in S5-TOKENRING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Bay Networks/SynOptics S5000-series Token Ring hardware

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks s5TrRingInfoBeaconEvents and s5TrRingInfoMonitorContentionEvents to diagnose a Token Ring segment reporting intermittent connectivity loss, since rising beacon activity typically points to a failing NIC or cable.

What Can Be Monitored
