Category: DSL and Broadband Access
Description: Manages OSPF routing process configuration, neighbor adjacencies, and area parameters on Redstone routers.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is REDSTONE-OSPF-MIB?
REDSTONE-OSPF-MIB is a Redstone Communications enterprise MIB extending standard OSPF management for Redstone routers. It provides configuration objects for the OSPF process, such as process ID, SPF hold interval, and max path splits, along with per-interface OSPF parameters like interface cost. Its monitoring value is largely protocol/software-state health: OSPF process settings, interface cost, and (via its trap-enable group) OSPF adjacency and routing events that reveal a flapping neighbor or misconfigured area before it causes routing instability. It is a vendor extension layered on top of the standard OSPF-MIB conventions (RFC 1850/4750), reusing IETF OSPF concepts while adding Redstone-specific tuning parameters. It is deployed on Redstone Communications routers in service-provider or enterprise networks running OSPF as their interior gateway protocol. Engineers can download the REDSTONE-OSPF-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in REDSTONE-OSPF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Redstone Communications routers
Monitoring Examples
An operator can poll rsOspfProcessId and rsOspfSpfHoldInterval to confirm the OSPF process configuration, and check rsOspfIfTable/rsOspfIfEntry for rsOspfIfCost on a per-interface basis. A rsOspfIfCost value that doesn't match the intended traffic-engineering policy, or an unexpected notification from the rsOspfTrapEnables group, would reveal a misconfigured interface or an OSPF adjacency flap.
What Can Be Monitored
- OSPF process configuration
- SPF hold interval
- per-interface OSPF cost
- OSPF adjacency/trap events
