Category: DSL and Broadband Access

Description: Manages AAA (authentication, authorization, and accounting) service configuration on Redstone edge routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is REDSTONE-AAA-MIB?

REDSTONE-AAA-MIB manages AAA (authentication, authorization, and accounting) service configuration on Redstone Communications edge/broadband access routers, an enterprise MIB tied to Redstone's BRAS-class products. It exposes objects for domain-based subscriber assignment, BRAS licensing limits, accounting interval configuration, and address pool/DNS assignment used in subscriber session setup. Its monitoring focus is largely on software/service-level status, tracking licensed-user counts against the configured BRAS license limit, accounting record intervals, and per-domain routing/loopback assignment, to catch license exhaustion or accounting failures that would affect subscriber billing and session accuracy. It is a Redstone-proprietary enterprise MIB with no explicit dependency on IETF RADIUS/AAA MIBs, defining its own vendor-specific object model instead. It is typically deployed by broadband/ISP operators running Redstone edge routers as BRAS platforms for PPPoE/DHCP subscriber session management. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the REDSTONE-AAA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in REDSTONE-AAA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Redstone Communications edge router (BRAS)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll rsAaaAssignBrasLicensedUsers against rsAaaAssignBrasLicense to determine how close the router is to its licensed subscriber-session capacity, alerting before new sessions are rejected due to license exhaustion. Checking rows in rsAaaAssignDomainTable (rsAaaAssignDomainEntry, keyed by rsAaaAssignDomainName) confirms each subscriber domain is correctly mapped to its rsAaaAssignDomainRouterName and rsAaaAssignDomainLoopback. Monitoring rsAaaAcctInterval and rsAaaAcctDupServerRouterName helps verify accounting records are being generated and duplicated to the correct backup accounting server.

What Can Be Monitored

  • licensed vs. active subscriber sessions
  • per-domain routing/loopback assignment
  • accounting interval configuration
  • duplicate accounting server status
  • default address pool/DNS assignment
