Category: DSL and Broadband Access

Description: Manages IP layer configuration, routing parameters, and interface address assignments on Redstone routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is REDSTONE-IP-MIB?

REDSTONE-IP-MIB is a Redstone Communications enterprise MIB for their router products that manages IP-layer interface configuration, addressing, and ARP timeout behavior. It exposes an IP interface table mapping logical IP interfaces to underlying (lower-layer) interfaces and interface types, along with a separate IP address table binding specific addresses to interfaces, plus a configurable ARP cache timeout. Its monitoring focus is IP-layer software configuration/status rather than physical hardware: an operator can verify which IP interfaces are configured and their row status, confirm address assignment consistency via the address table, and check ARP timeout settings that affect address-resolution stability. It builds on standard IP interface/addressing concepts (comparable in spirit to the IETF IP-MIB) but is implemented as a Redstone-specific enterprise extension rather than that standard MIB itself. It would have been deployed on Redstone Communications routers for IP routing and addressing management in enterprise or service-provider network environments, and network engineers can download the REDSTONE-IP-MIB file to load its object definitions into a MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in REDSTONE-IP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Redstone Communications routers

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll rsIpIfTable/rsIpIfEntry, keyed by rsIpIfIndex, to check rsIpIfRowStatus and rsIpIfLowerIfIndex/rsIpIfType for how each logical IP interface maps onto underlying hardware. rsIpAddrTable/rsIpAddrEntry, with rsIpAdEntAddr and rsIpAdEntIfIndex, lets an admin confirm which IP address is bound to which interface, useful when diagnosing a misconfigured or duplicate address. rsIpArpTimeout shows the configured ARP cache lifetime; an unusually short or long value here could explain excessive ARP traffic or stale-entry-related connectivity issues on that interface.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IP interface configuration and row status
  • IP address to interface binding
  • logical-to-physical (lower) interface mapping
  • ARP cache timeout setting
