Description: Manages inter-chassis redundancy (ICR) configuration and failover state for Ericsson SmartEdge BRAS pairs.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RBN-ICR-MIB?

RBN-ICR-MIB is a Redback Networks/Ericsson SmartEdge enterprise MIB for managing Inter-Chassis Resilience (ICR) — a high-availability pairing scheme where two SmartEdge BRAS chassis synchronize state so one can take over if the other fails. It exposes a table of ICR peer relationships identifying each pairing by local and peer IP address/port, priority, keepalive interval, and hold time, along with notifications and conformance groupings. Its central monitoring purpose is failover/redundancy health: the keepalive interval and hold-time settings, together with associated notifications, indicate whether the ICR peer link is alive and whether a failover has occurred, making this MIB directly useful for detecting an unplanned chassis switchover or a lost redundancy link. It depends on basic IP transport (the peer/local address and port objects) rather than another SNMP standard, and complements chassis-level hardware-status MIBs by covering the resilience/failover software layer specifically. It is deployed in pairs of Redback/Ericsson SmartEdge BRAS routers configured for high-availability subscriber-edge service. Engineers can download the RBN-ICR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-ICR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Redback SmartEdge (Ericsson) BRAS router pair configured for high availability

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls rbnIcrTable/rbnIcrEntry to check rbnIcrPriority and rbnIcrKeepAliveInterval/rbnIcrHoldTime for each rbnIcrId, and watches for rbnIcrNotifications traps indicating that the peer at rbnIcrPeerAddress has stopped responding within the hold time, signaling a possible failover to the standby chassis. Comparing rbnIcrLocalAddress/rbnIcrLocalPort and rbnIcrPeerAddress/rbnIcrPeerPort across both chassis confirms the ICR pairing is correctly configured before relying on it for redundancy.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ICR peer pairing configuration
  • keepalive interval and hold time
  • ICR priority
  • peer reachability/failover notifications
