RBN-IEEE8021-CFM-CAP is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module, with 'RBN' referring to the module's Redback Networks lineage, now Ericsson SmartEdge, documenting which objects of the standard IEEE8021-CFM-MIB (IEEE 802.1ag Connectivity Fault Management) are implemented by the SNMP agent on Ericsson SmartEdge Multi-service Edge Router, Metro Ethernet Service Transport, and Smart Service Router platforms. CFM itself provides Ethernet OAM functions such as continuity checking, loopback, and link-trace between maintenance endpoints to detect Ethernet service faults, but this particular module carries no runtime data of its own. It exists purely to state platform- and software-version-specific support for the CFM MIB's objects so an NMS knows what it can poll. It is explicitly and entirely dependent on the standard IEEE8021-CFM-MIB it provides capabilities for. It is used in NMS integration and compliance verification for Ethernet OAM/CFM deployments on Ericsson SmartEdge-family routers rather than in direct device monitoring, and NMS teams consult the RBN-IEEE8021-CFM-CAP MIB to determine agent conformance before deployment.

This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime data objects (sample_objects is empty), so no monitoring scenario can be honestly described. It would be consulted by an NMS to confirm which IEEE 802.1ag CFM continuity-check and fault-detection objects a given Ericsson SmartEdge software release supports before enabling Ethernet OAM monitoring.
