Category: Raisecom Networks

Description: Monitors optical transceiver parameters including transmit power, receive power, and temperature.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RAISECOM-OPTICAL-MONITOR-MIB?

RAISECOM-OPTICAL-MONITOR-MIB is a Raisecom enterprise MIB for digital optical monitoring (DOM) on optical network elements, exposing per-interface transceiver inventory and real-time optical performance parameters. The transceiver info table reports vendor identity, part and serial numbers, connector and fiber type, wavelength, and transfer distance, while the optical monitoring table and performance-monitoring group track live characteristics such as transmit power, receive power, and temperature for each optical interface. This is a clear hardware-health MIB: falling receive power or rising temperature on a transceiver, tracked per interface, are classic early-warning signs of a degrading optical link or an overheating SFP module before the link actually fails. The MIB appears self-contained for optical monitoring purposes, complementing but not replacing the standard IF-MIB for basic interface status. It is deployed on Raisecom optical transport and access equipment (e.g., media converters, optical transport platforms) in service provider and enterprise fiber networks, where engineers commonly load the RAISECOM-OPTICAL-MONITOR-MIB into a MIB Browser to poll these values.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RAISECOM-OPTICAL-MONITOR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Raisecom optical transport/access network elements

Monitoring Examples

An engineer troubleshooting a flaky fiber link would walk raisecomTranceiverInfoTable to confirm the installed optic's raisecomTranceiverVendorName, raisecomTranceiverVendorSN, and raisecomTranceiverWavelength match what's expected for that span. They would then poll raisecomOpticalMonTable, part of raisecomOpticalPMGroup, to check current transmit/receive power and temperature readings for that transceiver. A steadily declining receive-power trend on one interface, while others remain stable, would point to a dirty connector or a degrading fiber segment rather than an equipment fault.

What Can Be Monitored

  • transmit optical power
  • receive optical power
  • transceiver temperature
  • transceiver vendor/part/serial number
  • wavelength and fiber type
