What Is SWITCH-TC?

SWITCH-TC is a textual-conventions-only MIB module that defines shared data types, enumerations, and base type definitions used by other switch-management MIB modules from the same vendor. It does not itself expose any runtime configuration or status objects; instead it standardizes how values, such as port states, VLAN modes, or status enumerations, are represented consistently across a family of related switch MIBs. Because it carries no instantiable objects, it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status on its own, though the type consistency it enforces indirectly supports reliable interpretation of the status values reported by the MIBs that import it. Administrators debugging an unexpected enumeration value in a dependent switch MIB often check the SWITCH-TC reference first, since it defines the authoritative meaning of the shared type in question. It is a dependency consumed by other switch MIB modules within the same vendor's MIB tree rather than depending on external IETF standards itself. It is present wherever the associated vendor's switch management MIB suite is deployed, functioning as a shared definitions module rather than a standalone monitoring target.
