Category: ATM, DSL and Broadband Access

Description: Manages Quantum Bridge ATM interface configuration, virtual circuit parameters, and traffic shaping on broadband access equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is QB-ATM-MIB?

This is a Quantum Bridge proprietary MIB that extends standard ATM management with additional objects for ATM interface configuration, virtual circuits, and traffic shaping on Quantum Bridge broadband access equipment. Its data spans ATM link/PNNI neighbor-peer topology and signaling counters, alongside configuration for virtual circuits and traffic parameters. It is used to monitor the operational software status of the ATM control plane — checking PNNI peer state (qbAtmPnniPeerState) and per-peer database summary and PTSE/PTSP message counters to confirm that PNNI neighbor relationships are stable and topology databases are synchronizing, which reveals routing/signaling instability if peer counts drop or message counters stall. It explicitly builds on the standard ATM MIB and related IETF ATM proposed drafts, adding Quantum Bridge-specific PNNI and switch-module extensions on top of that base. It is deployed on Quantum Bridge ATM broadband access/aggregation equipment in carrier networks using ATM/PNNI for circuit signaling and topology distribution, and network engineers typically reference the QB-ATM-MIB MIB when setting up PNNI-based monitoring for this equipment.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in QB-ATM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Quantum Bridge ATM broadband access switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls qbAtmPnniNbrPeerTable/qbAtmPnniNbrPeerEntry to see each PNNI neighbor (qbAtmPnniPeerRemoteNodeId) and its qbAtmPnniPeerState, confirming peers remain in a full/synchronized adjacency. Comparing qbAtmPnniPeerRcvDbSums/qbAtmPnniPeerXmtDbSums and the PTSP/PTSE request counters (qbAtmPnniPeerRcvPtsps/XmtPtsps, RcvPtseReqs/XmtPtseReqs) over time reveals whether topology-database exchange has stalled, which would explain routing instability across the ATM/PNNI mesh; qbAtmPnniPeerPortCount and qbAtmPnniPeerSvccRccIndex help correlate a peer relationship back to a specific physical port.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PNNI neighbor peer state
  • PNNI database summary counters
  • PTSE/PTSP message counters
  • peer port count/RCC index
