Category: ATM, Vendor: IBM

Description: IBM MIB for the LAN Emulation Server (LES) and Broadcast Unknown Server (BUS) components in ATM LANE deployments.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IBM-LES-BUS-MIB?

IBM-LES-BUS-MIB covers the LAN Emulation Server (LES) and Broadcast Unknown Server (BUS) components used in ATM LAN Emulation (LANE) deployments on IBM ATM networking equipment. It exposes an ibmLesBusConfTable describing each LES/BUS instance's ATM device number, ESI (End System Identifier) configuration, ARP response handling, and VCC (virtual channel connection) forwarding settings, alongside a statistics group for operational counters. Its monitoring value is chiefly configuration/operational-status of the ATM LANE software service rather than physical hardware sensors: administrators use it to verify that LES/BUS instances are configured with the correct ESI and selector values and to watch VCC-related statistics that reveal whether broadcast/unknown traffic forwarding and address resolution are functioning correctly for the emulated LAN. Bandwidth-reservation objects like controlDirectMaxReservedBw and multicastSendMaxReservedBw help confirm the service isn't exceeding its allocated ATM bandwidth. This MIB depends on the underlying ATM Forum LANE specification and IBM's ATM device numbering conventions, and it is deployed on IBM ATM switches/routers providing LAN Emulation services in legacy ATM-to-Ethernet bridging environments. Engineers can download the IBM-LES-BUS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IBM-LES-BUS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • IBM ATM switch/router with LAN Emulation (LES/BUS) support

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll ibmLesBusConfTable/ibmLesBusConfEntry, keyed by atmDevNum, to check useBurnedInEsi versus configuredEsi and configuredSelector, confirming the LES/BUS instance is addressed correctly on the ATM fabric. Reviewing use2ControlDistributeVccs and use2MulticastForwardVccs settings alongside the ibmLesBusStatGroup counters would reveal whether control and multicast-forwarding VCCs are established as expected; a missing or reset VCC count would indicate a broken LANE broadcast path. validateBestEffortPcr and the reserved-bandwidth objects (controlDirectMaxReservedBw, multicastSendMaxReservedBw) would be checked to ensure the LES/BUS isn't oversubscribing ATM bandwidth.

What Can Be Monitored

  • LES/BUS ESI and selector configuration
  • control/multicast VCC forwarding status
  • reserved bandwidth for control and multicast traffic
  • LES/BUS operational statistics
