Description: Manages Single-Ended Line Test (SELT) measurements on Paradyne ADSL equipment to characterize loop quality before activation.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PDN-ADSL-SELT-MIB?

PDN-ADSL-SELT-MIB is a Paradyne (PDN) enterprise MIB for managing Single-Ended Line Test (SELT) measurements on ADSL equipment, used to characterize copper loop quality before or during DSL service activation. It exposes a control/status table for initiating SELT tests (type, command, status, duration, time remaining) per ADSL interface, and a line-characteristics table breaking the loop into segments with per-segment length data. Its monitoring value is diagnostic/hardware-status oriented for the physical line: administrators use it to confirm a SELT test completed successfully, check remaining test duration, and inspect estimated loop segment lengths to identify bridged taps or excessive loop length that would degrade DSL performance. The module description notes it is an interim, vendor-specific solution created because the IETF ADSL MIB working group had not standardized SELT objects at the time, so it is not derived from a ratified IETF MIB and may be superseded once one exists. It is deployed on Paradyne ADSL line cards/DSLAMs used by carriers to qualify copper loops prior to provisioning ADSL service. Engineers can download the PDN-ADSL-SELT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PDN-ADSL-SELT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Paradyne ADSL line card / DSLAM

Monitoring Examples

A technician sets pdnAdslSeltCmd to initiate a test on a given line and then polls pdnAdslSeltStatus and pdnAdslSeltTimeLeft to track completion of the pdnAdslSeltTable entry for that interface. Once complete, the pdnAdslSeltLcTable (pdnAdslSeltLcEntry, keyed by pdnAdslSeltLcSegmentIndex) is read to inspect pdnAdslSeltLcSegmentLength values, revealing a loop segment length inconsistent with expected distance and flagging a possible bridged tap or wiring fault before the line is activated for service.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SELT test status and duration
  • test time remaining
  • loop segment length
  • wire size/gauge
  • SELT test command/type
