Category: MPLS/Traffic Engineering

Description: Tracks Path Computation Element (PCE) discovery performed through OSPF/IS-IS flooding, capturing advertised PCE capabilities and domain scope.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PCE-DISC-STD-MIB?

PCE-DISC-STD-MIB is a vendor-neutral IETF standards MIB for monitoring Path Computation Element (PCE) discovery, which occurs via OSPF or IS-IS flooding in TE-enabled networks. It exposes discovered-PCE information such as advertised capabilities and domain/scope rather than conventional device data. Its monitoring focus is on control-plane/software state: it lets an operator confirm which PCEs have been discovered network-wide and verify their advertised capabilities and scope are consistent, which is essential for centralized path-computation to work correctly, rather than reporting hardware health. It has an explicit dependency on the underlying routing protocols (OSPF-MIB/ISIS-MIB and their TE extensions), since discovery information is learned via their flooding mechanisms, and it complements PCE-MIB. It is deployed on routers acting as PCE clients in MPLS-TE/GMPLS backbone networks that use PCE-based path computation. Engineers can download the PCE-DISC-STD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PCE-DISC-STD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • MPLS-TE/GMPLS routers acting as PCE clients

Monitoring Examples

No specific object or table names were supplied for this module, so a concrete example cannot cite real identifiers here. Generally, a PCE discovery MIB of this kind would expose a table of discovered PCEs keyed by router or PCE address with columns for advertised capability and scope, letting an operator verify that a newly deployed PCE has been correctly discovered network-wide via OSPF/IS-IS flooding.
