Category: MPLS/Traffic Engineering

Description: Manages Path Computation Client (PCC) Discovery Protocol sessions and parameters for MPLS/GMPLS traffic engineering.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PCC-PCEDP-MIB?

PCC-PCEDP-MIB is a vendor-neutral, IETF-derived SNMP module for managing the Path Computation Element (PCE) Discovery Protocol as used by a Path Computation Client (PCC) in MPLS/GMPLS traffic-engineered networks. It defines objects for tracking PCE discovery sessions, allowing a PCC device to learn about available PCEs and their capabilities dynamically rather than through static configuration. Its monitoring role is protocol/software-oriented rather than hardware-oriented, focused on the state and parameters of PCE discovery exchanges that underpin dynamic path computation for traffic-engineered LSPs. As an IETF standards-track module, it inherently depends on the broader MPLS/GMPLS traffic engineering and PCEP (Path Computation Element Communication Protocol) framework it supports. It is deployed on routers acting as PCCs in service provider MPLS/GMPLS backbones that use dynamic PCE discovery for traffic engineering. Engineers can download the PCC-PCEDP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PCC-PCEDP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • MPLS/GMPLS-capable router acting as a Path Computation Client

Monitoring Examples

No populated sample objects were provided for this module, so a specific object-level scenario cannot be grounded; conceptually, an administrator would monitor this MIB's PCE discovery session objects on a PCC router to confirm it has successfully discovered available PCEs and their advertised capabilities, and would investigate a discovery session stuck in a non-operational state as a sign of PCEP misconfiguration or connectivity loss to the PCE.
