Category: Console Servers
Description: Reports cellular modem signal strength and network registration status on Opengear management appliances.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is OPENGEAR-SIGNAL-MIB?
OPENGEAR-SIGNAL-MIB is a vendor MIB from Opengear covering cellular/3G/4G modem signal and event reporting on Opengear's out-of-band console management appliances. It exposes an event table capturing signal-related events tied to specific serial console ports, including an event type, current state, and the port number/label the event occurred on. This directly supports monitoring the health and connectivity status of the cellular WAN failover link built into these appliances, for example detecting when cellular signal or registration state changes, which is critical for confirming the out-of-band management path stays reachable. The module defines its own notification prefix and traps for signal events, and it depends on the device's interface/port model to associate events with specific console ports. It is typically deployed on Opengear ACM/OM/CM-series console servers and remote-site cellular gateways used for lights-out and out-of-band network management, where OPENGEAR-SIGNAL-MIB SNMP monitoring confirms the cellular failover path stays reachable.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in OPENGEAR-SIGNAL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Opengear console servers/remote site gateways with cellular modems
- Opengear ACM/OM/CM-series appliances
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll or trap on ogsgnlEventTable/ogsgnlEventEntry, keyed by ogsgnlEventIndex, to see ogsgnlEventType and ogsgnlEventState for each ogsgnlEventPortNumber/ogsgnlEventPortLabel. A change in ogsgnlEventState to a degraded or lost-signal condition on a given console port would indicate the cellular modem attached to that port has lost network registration, alerting the admin that the out-of-band cellular backup path is down.
What Can Be Monitored
- cellular signal event type
- signal/registration state
- affected console port number
- affected console port label
