Description: Monitors UPS power status, battery level, and alarms connected to Opengear out-of-band management appliances.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is OPENGEAR-UPS-MIB?
OPENGEAR-UPS-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module for Opengear out-of-band management appliances that monitors the status of UPS (uninterruptible power supply) units connected to or managed by the appliance, including power state, battery condition, and alarm events. It belongs to the power/environmental monitoring category of device MIBs, focused specifically on backup power infrastructure rather than the Opengear appliance's own internal hardware. This is a clear hardware-status MIB: it is used to detect UPS events such as a shift to battery power, low-battery warnings, or other power-related alarms that indicate an approaching power failure or degraded battery health, which is essential for avoiding unplanned outages at remote sites. It is part of the Opengear enterprise MIB family built on the shared OPENGEAR-SMI OID tree and is commonly deployed together with OPENGEAR-SENSOR-MIB and OPENGEAR-HOST-MIB for complete site infrastructure monitoring. It is typically used at remote or unattended locations where an Opengear console server also manages a connected UPS to protect equipment from power interruptions. Engineers can download the OPENGEAR-UPS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in OPENGEAR-UPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Opengear out-of-band management appliance
- connected UPS (uninterruptible power supply) unit
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll ognupsEventTable/ognupsEventEntry, reading ognupsEventName and ognupsEventType to determine which UPS event occurred, for example a transfer to battery power or a low-battery alarm. A new event entry indicating sustained battery operation would signal a utility power outage at the site, prompting remote intervention or graceful shutdown of dependent equipment before the UPS battery is exhausted. Tracking the frequency of such events over time can also reveal a UPS battery nearing end-of-life.
What Can Be Monitored
- UPS event name and type
- power source transfer events (utility/battery)
- UPS alarm conditions
- battery status indications
