Description: Reports environmental sensor readings such as temperature and humidity from Opengear management appliances.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is OPENGEAR-SENSOR-MIB?
OPENGEAR-SENSOR-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module for Opengear out-of-band management appliances that reports readings from attached environmental sensors, such as temperature and humidity probes connected to the device. It falls into the environmental-monitoring category of MIBs, exposing a status table of named sensors along with their device type, sensor type, and current reading value. This MIB is explicitly a hardware-status MIB: it lets administrators track physical environmental conditions in equipment racks or remote sites, for example detecting an overheating cabinet or a humidity excursion that could damage equipment, well before a failure occurs. It is part of the Opengear enterprise MIB suite built on the common OPENGEAR-SMI OID tree, and is often deployed alongside OPENGEAR-UPS-MIB and OPENGEAR-HOST-MIB for comprehensive facility and infrastructure monitoring. It is typically used in remote or unmanned sites such as branch offices, cell sites, or colocation cages where Opengear consoles provide the only local sensing and out-of-band access. Engineers can download the OPENGEAR-SENSOR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in OPENGEAR-SENSOR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Opengear out-of-band management appliance
- attached environmental sensors (temperature/humidity probes)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll ogsensStatusTable/ogsensStatusEntry, reading ogsensStatusName and ogsensStatusDevType to identify which physical sensor is being reported, ogsensStatusType to know whether it is a temperature, humidity, or other probe, and ogsensStatusValue for the current measurement. A steadily climbing ogsensStatusValue on a temperature-type sensor would indicate rising rack or room temperature, prompting a cooling or ventilation check before equipment is affected. This table-driven design allows monitoring multiple heterogeneous sensors attached to a single Opengear unit from one polling pass.
What Can Be Monitored
- sensor name and device type
- sensor reading value
- sensor type (temperature/humidity/etc.)
- environmental status per attached sensor
