Description: Defines product OID registrations for the Opengear out-of-band management appliance product line.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is OPENGEAR-PRODUCTS-MIB?
OPENGEAR-PRODUCTS-MIB is a vendor identification MIB from Opengear, a maker of out-of-band console/management appliances, and it belongs to the remote/out-of-band network management technology area. Rather than exposing runtime operational data, this module's purpose is to register OID sysObjectID values for each Opengear hardware product model, such as the CM4001, CM4002, CM4008, CM41xx console server family and SD4001/SD4002 smart distribution units. Its practical monitoring value is limited to identity: an NMS uses these OIDs via sysObjectID to determine exactly which Opengear model an agent is running on, which then informs which vendor-specific data MIBs (covering things like serial port status, power, or environment) to poll next. It has an implicit dependency on SNMPv2-SMI/SNMPv2-MIB conventions for the enterprise OID tree and sysObjectID assignment, and it complements (rather than replaces) Opengear's separate management MIBs that expose actual hardware/software status. It is deployed wherever Opengear console servers or smart PDUs are used for out-of-band access to data-center or remote-site equipment. Engineers can download the OPENGEAR-PRODUCTS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in OPENGEAR-PRODUCTS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Opengear console server (CM series)
- Opengear smart distribution/PDU device (SD series)
Monitoring Examples
The sample objects (ogCM4001, ogCM4002, ogCM4008, ogCM41xx, ogSD4001, ogSD4002) are each unique product-identifier OIDs, not runtime data points, so this module functions purely as a product registry. An NMS reads a device's sysObjectID and matches it against these OIDs to identify, for example, that it is talking to a CM4008 console server versus an SD4002 power distribution unit. No polling of these OIDs themselves yields operational or fault data; monitoring of actual status happens through Opengear's separate operational MIBs once the model is identified.
