All MIBs › OPENGEAR-SMI
Category: Console Servers
Description: Defines the enterprise OID structure and registration hierarchy for Opengear management appliance MIB modules.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is OPENGEAR-SMI?
OPENGEAR-SMI is the Structure of Management Information module for Opengear, defining the enterprise OID root and the registration hierarchy (subtrees like cm, sd, im, ogProducts, console) under which all other Opengear-specific MIB modules, such as the host, sensor, UPS, and product MIBs, are organized. It does not itself expose runtime monitoring data; instead it establishes the naming/numbering conventions that let SNMP tools correctly parse and organize object identifiers from the rest of the Opengear MIB family. Because it defines no live counters or status objects, it has no direct role in reporting hardware or software status, but it is foundational infrastructure that every other Opengear MIB depends on for its OID assignments. Its dependency relationship runs in the opposite direction from most MIBs: rather than depending on other MIBs, it is depended upon by the rest of the Opengear product-specific MIB modules. It is used only indirectly by network administrators, typically loaded into an SNMP manager as a prerequisite before loading any other Opengear MIB module. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the OPENGEAR-SMI file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in OPENGEAR-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Opengear out-of-band management appliance (structural OID definitions only, not device-specific data)
Monitoring Examples
This module defines OID tree nodes such as opengear, cm, sd, im, ogProducts, and console, which serve purely as registration points rather than pollable data objects. There are no runtime status or performance objects to monitor in OPENGEAR-SMI itself; it should be described honestly as a structural/naming MIB, with actual monitoring performed via the other Opengear-specific MIBs (HOST-MIB, SENSOR-MIB, UPS-MIB) that register their objects under this tree.
