Category: Out-of-Band Management
Description: Establishes the enterprise OID root and overall structure underlying all Opengear out-of-band management MIB modules.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is OG-SMI-MIB?
OG-SMI-MIB is Opengear's Structure of Management Information module, defining the enterprise OID root under which Opengear's out-of-band console/management server MIB modules register their objects. As a root SMI module it does not itself expose object instances, so it carries no direct hardware or software status data such as serial port state, cellular signal strength, or system uptime. Those categories are instead exposed by Opengear's functional MIB modules (covering console server ports, power control, cellular/network failover, and environmental sensors on some models) that import this OID tree. Its dependency relationship is structural: every Opengear product MIB module relies on OG-SMI-MIB for its enterprise OID assignment, so tracing an OG-SMI-MIB OID back to its root is mainly useful for confirming enterprise numbering before troubleshooting object resolution elsewhere. It is deployed wherever Opengear out-of-band management/console server appliances are present, as the base import for that vendor's device MIBs.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in OG-SMI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices

Monitoring Examples
OG-SMI-MIB defines only the enterprise OID root with no sample runtime objects included in this module. Actual monitoring of an Opengear console server — such as serial port status or cellular connectivity — is exposed by other Opengear MIB modules that register beneath this root. There is no direct polling scenario for this module by itself.
