Category: Nortel Magellan Passport

Description: Provides SNMP management objects for virtual media interface configuration on Nortel Magellan Passport switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-VirtualMediaMIB?

This MIB manages the virtual media interface abstraction on Nortel Magellan Passport multiservice switches, which lets multiple logical circuits be multiplexed over a shared physical medium. It exposes vmRowStatusTable for the virtual media component itself and vmIfRowStatusTable for its associated logical interface, both following the standard Passport component lifecycle. Monitoring here is largely about configuration and binding status - confirming that a virtual media component and its logical interface have been successfully created and bound to the underlying physical media - rather than rich runtime counters. It depends on the shared Passport component/RowStatus conventions and the underlying physical media MIBs it layers on top of. It is deployed on Passport nodes that use virtual media abstraction to run several logical services over one physical interface. Engineers can download the Nortel-Magellan-Passport-VirtualMediaMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-Magellan-Passport-VirtualMediaMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Magellan Passport multiservice switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks vmRowStatusTable/vmRowStatusEntry to confirm a virtual media component (vmComponentName) is active, and vmIfRowStatusTable/vmIfRowStatusEntry to verify its associated logical interface (vmIf) has been successfully provisioned. vmStorageType and vmIfStorageType indicate whether these are permanent or volatile configuration objects. A virtual media or virtual interface row status stuck at notReady or notInService means the logical interface failed to bind to its underlying physical media, blocking any service configured over it.

What Can Be Monitored

  • virtual media component row status
  • virtual interface row status
  • component storage type
