Module: Nortel-Magellan-Passport-VirtualMediaMIB

OID (symbolic): Nortel-Magellan-Passport-VirtualMediaMIB::vmIfSnmpOperStatus

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.562.2.4.1.133.2.13.1.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: The current state of the interface. The up state indicates the interface is operational and capable of forwarding packets. The down state indicates the interface is not operational, thus unable to forward packets. testing state indicates that no operational packets can be passed.

What is vmIfSnmpOperStatus?

This object reports the interface's actual current operational state, as opposed to vmIfIfAdminStatus which is only the desired state: up means it is operational and forwarding packets, down means it cannot forward packets, and testing means it is running diagnostics. An admin compares this against vmIfIfAdminStatus to detect a mismatch, for example admin set to up but oper showing down, which signals an underlying fault such as a missing ProtocolPort link. It defaults to up but will drop to down automatically if the linked ProtocolPort or hardware fails.
