Description: This attribute holds the Customer Identifier (CID).

Every component has a CID. If a component has a cid attribute, the component's CID is the provisioned value of that attribute; otherwise the component inherits the CID of its parent. The top- level component has a CID of 0.

Every operator session also has a CID, which is the CID provisioned for the operator's user ID. An operator will see only the stream data for components having a matching CID. Also, the operator will be allowed to issue commands for only those components which have a matching CID.

An operator CID of 0 is used to identify the Network Manager (referred to as 'NetMan' in DPN). This CID matches the CID of any component. Values 1 to 8191 inclusive (equivalent to 'basic CIDs' in DPN) may be assigned to specific customers.

What is vmIfCustomerIdentifier?

This object holds the Customer Identifier (CID) provisioned on the vmIf component, which determines which operator sessions (matching that CID) are permitted to view its data and issue commands against it. A CID of 0 identifies the Network Manager (NetMan), which can see and manage every component regardless of CID, while values 1 through 8191 restrict visibility to a specific customer's operators, as in a carrier's multi-tenant Passport deployment. An admin might set this to 4200 so that only operators logged in under customer CID 4200 can manage this particular VirtualMedia interface.
