Category: Nortel Magellan Passport
Description: Provides SNMP objects for managing shortcut connection (MPOA/NHRP) parameters on Nortel Magellan Passport ATM switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-ShortcutConnectionMIB?
This MIB module is part of the Nortel Magellan Passport family and manages MPOA/NHRP "shortcut" connections on Magellan Passport ATM switches, direct ATM virtual circuits established to bypass router hops for next-hop-resolution-protocol-based traffic. It exposes provisioning objects (vrPpScRowStatus, vrPpScComponentName) and operational data such as the remote NBMA address, connection age, and MTU for each shortcut ATM connection. Network staff use it to monitor whether shortcut connections are established and healthy — checking vrPpScAge to see how long a shortcut has been up and vrPpScMtu to confirm path MTU consistency — reflecting the operational software state of the ATM shortcut-routing subsystem. It builds on the standard Passport row-status/component-naming convention and implicitly depends on ATM Forum MPOA/NHRP concepts for shortcut connection semantics. It is deployed on Nortel Magellan Passport ATM switches participating in MPOA-based shortcut routing to reduce router-hop latency for NBMA destinations. Engineers can download the Nortel-Magellan-Passport-ShortcutConnectionMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-Magellan-Passport-ShortcutConnectionMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Nortel Magellan Passport ATM switch
Monitoring Examples
Polling vrPpScOperTable/vrPpScOperEntry lets an operator read vrPpScRemoteNbmaAddress, vrPpScAge, and vrPpScMtu for each active shortcut connection identified by vrPpScIndex, confirming the shortcut to a given remote NBMA peer is still established with a consistent MTU. A shortcut connection whose vrPpScAge resets unexpectedly or disappears from the table would indicate the ATM connection (vrPpScAtmCon) was torn down, prompting investigation into NHRP resolution failures.
What Can Be Monitored
- shortcut connection row status
- remote NBMA address
- connection age
- path MTU
- ATM connection identifier
