Description: Manages wired uplink port configuration, link state, and traffic statistics on Nortel NTWS WLAN controller switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NTWS-PORT-MIB?
NTWS-PORT-MIB is a Nortel (later Avaya) private MIB for the NTWS family of WLAN controller switches, managing the wired uplink/downlink ports on the controller itself. It exposes port configuration data such as port number, port mode, Power-over-Ethernet mode, and trunk-master assignment via a port configuration table. For hardware/software status monitoring, it lets an administrator confirm each physical port's operating mode and PoE state and identify which port is acting as trunk master, useful for diagnosing link aggregation or PoE-powered access-point connectivity issues. As a vendor port MIB it complements, rather than replaces, the standard IF-MIB used for generic interface counters, layering Nortel-specific PoE and trunking semantics on top. It is deployed on Nortel/Avaya NTWS wireless LAN controller switches in enterprise wireless network deployments. Engineers can download the NTWS-PORT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NTWS-PORT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Nortel/Avaya NTWS WLAN controller switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll the ntwsPortConfigTable/ntwsPortConfigEntry rows, keyed by ntwsPortConfigPortNumber, to check ntwsPortConfigPortMode and ntwsPortConfigPoeMode for each uplink port. If ntwsPortConfigPoeMode shows PoE unexpectedly disabled on a port feeding a wireless access point, or ntwsPortConfigTrunkMaster shows the wrong port designated master, the admin can quickly identify a misconfiguration causing an AP outage or a broken trunk. This table-driven view lets an NMS iterate all controller ports to build a per-port health and configuration report.
What Can Be Monitored
- port operating mode
- Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) mode per port
- trunk master port assignment
- port number/index
