What Is NTWS-BASIC-TC?
NTWS-BASIC-TC is a Nortel Networks Textual Convention MIB that defines shared data types, such as system operational state and product-type enumerations, used consistently across the NTWS family of Nortel wireless LAN switch MIBs, rather than exposing any monitorable objects of its own. It exists purely to standardize how status values and product identifiers are represented so that other NTWS MIBs (root, switch, and feature-specific modules) can report system state and hardware/product type in a uniform way. Because it contains only type definitions, it has no direct role in polling uptime, temperature, or traffic counters, but it underpins the state and product-type fields used elsewhere in the suite to indicate a wireless switch's operational status (normal versus faulted) and identify the hardware model. It is a foundational dependency for every other MIB in the Nortel NTWS wireless switch family, which import its textual conventions. It is used in Nortel/Avaya wireless LAN switch and access-point-controller deployments as the common typing layer underneath the operational NTWS MIBs. Loading the NTWS-BASIC-TC MIB file is typically a prerequisite step before compiling any other NTWS module into an SNMP management platform.

Other NTWS MIBs import this module's system-state textual convention to represent, for a given wireless switch, whether it is in a normal, degraded, or faulted operational state, and its product-type convention to encode which Nortel wireless switch hardware model is reporting; a management application decodes these shared enumerated values consistently across every NTWS table that uses them.
