Category: DHCP

Description: Manages NMS Communications DHCP server pools, address ranges, and server operational parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NMS-DHCP-SERVER-MIB?

NMS-DHCP-SERVER-MIB is an NMS Communications enterprise MIB that models the built-in DHCP server on NMS devices, rooted under the nmsMgmt subtree (dhcp OBJECT IDENTIFIER ::= { nmsMgmt 355 }). It exposes a top-level dhcpServerStatus scalar indicating whether the device's DHCP service is enabled or disabled, and an nmsDhcpIpAddrPoolTable that models each configured address pool's subnetwork, mask, start/end address range, and a comma-separated reserved-address list. This gives operators direct visibility into whether DHCP is running on the device and how its address pools are scoped, which is useful for confirming address allocation configuration and for diagnosing DHCP lease exhaustion or misconfigured pool boundaries. It has no dependency beyond standard SNMPv2-SMI/TC constructs and IpAddress from RFC1155-SMI, and is deployed on NMS Communications platforms acting as embedded DHCP servers within voice/data gateway or access equipment. Because it only carries a hint-level description rather than full source detail here, teams evaluating it for the first time will want to consult the NMS-DHCP-SERVER-MIB reference before polling in production.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMS-DHCP-SERVER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NMS Communications DHCP-capable devices (voice/data gateway or access platforms)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls dhcpServerStatus to confirm the DHCP service is enabled, then checks nmsDhcpIpAddrPoolTable's nmsDhcpIpAddrPoolStart/End range against the number of active leases; a disabled status or a pool range that has been fully consumed would explain clients failing to obtain an address from this device.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DHCP server enable/disable status
  • address pool subnet and mask configuration
  • address pool start/end range
  • reserved address list per pool
