What Is PRVT-DHCP-MIB?

PRVT-DHCP-MIB is a proprietary BATM Advanced Communication MIB for managing DHCP relay and DHCP snooping features on their carrier Ethernet switching platform. It exposes DHCP protocol activity counters — totals for Discover, Request, Release, Offer, Ack, Nack, and Decline messages — alongside configuration tables for DHCP address ranges (dhcpRangeTable) and trusted port assignments used in snooping. Rather than hardware sensors, this MIB's monitoring value centers on software/service status: administrators use the message-type counters to confirm the DHCP relay/snooping function is actively processing client requests and to spot anomalies like a flood of Decline or Nack messages that could indicate address exhaustion or a rogue DHCP server. There is no strong dependency on other MIBs; it is a self-contained proprietary extension within BATM's private enterprise tree. It is deployed in BATM carrier Ethernet switches used by service providers to provide managed, secure DHCP relay/snooping to subscriber or business Ethernet services. Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll dhcpStatusTotalNoOfDiscovers, dhcpStatusTotalNoOfOffers, and dhcpStatusTotalNoOfAcks together to confirm the DHCP handshake is completing normally across the relay; a growing gap between Discovers and Acks suggests requests are being dropped or a DHCP server is unreachable. dhcpStatusTotalNoOfDeclines and dhcpStatusTotalNoOfNacks rising sharply could indicate IP address conflicts or an exhausted address pool defined in dhcpRangeTable (dhcpRangeStartIp/dhcpRangeStopIp). Checking these counters over time is a standard way to validate DHCP relay health on a switch serving many downstream clients.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using dhcpStatusTotalNoOfDiscovers OID:

Select a BATM Advanced Communication carrier Ethernet switch (DHCP relay/snooping) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type dhcpStatusTotalNoOfDiscovers into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. This variable indicates the number of discovery messages received. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
