Category: DHCP, Security

Description: Monitors NMS Communications DHCP snooping binding tables and untrusted port enforcement for LAN security.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NMS-DHCP-SNOOPING-MIB?

NMS-DHCP-SNOOPING-MIB is a vendor MIB from NMS Communications that governs DHCP snooping, a Layer 2 security feature used to prevent rogue DHCP servers and IP/MAC spoofing on access switches. It exposes configuration-style data, principally a global enable/disable status flag for the snooping feature on the device. Rather than hardware health, its monitoring value is in software/feature-state status: an operator polls this object to confirm the security feature is actually active (rather than silently disabled) as part of compliance or security posture checks. It is a self-contained vendor MIB with no explicit dependency noted on other standard MIBs. It is typically deployed on NMS Communications-branded access or aggregation switches in enterprise or carrier LAN environments where DHCP spoofing protection is required. Engineers can download the NMS-DHCP-SNOOPING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMS-DHCP-SNOOPING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NMS Communications Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

The single scalar status object (0-disable, 1-enable) documented in the module description would typically be polled periodically to verify DHCP snooping remains enabled; a value flipping to 0 unexpectedly would indicate the security control was disabled, either by misconfiguration or a malicious change, and should trigger an alert. No per-binding or per-port table objects are disclosed in the available data, so detailed snooping-binding monitoring cannot be described from this source alone.

What Can Be Monitored
