All MIBs › NETCOM-MIB
Category: LAN Management, Network Management
Description: Defines management objects for NetCom network communication and interface hardware components.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NETCOM-MIB?
This is an enterprise MIB from Sinetica ("netcom" branch) for environmental monitoring hardware, exposing objects for humidity and temperature sensing on network communication equipment. It defines objects to enable monitoring (netcomEnvHumidityEnableMonitoring, netcomEnvTemperatureEnableMonitoring), read current sensor values (netcomEnvCurrentHumidity, netcomEnvCurrentTemperature), set alarm thresholds (upper/lower bounds for both humidity and temperature), and apply calibration offsets for each sensor. This is a direct hardware-environmental-monitoring MIB: it is used to track the physical operating environment of network equipment—detecting overheating, excessive humidity, or sensor drift—which is critical for equipment installed in unconditioned cabinets, outdoor enclosures, or environmentally sensitive sites. It is a standalone vendor MIB (Sinetica) without an apparent dependency on IETF standard environmental MIBs. It is typically deployed on environmental monitoring probes/sensor units attached to network communication racks or enclosures, especially in outside-plant or harsh-environment deployments. Engineers can download the NETCOM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETCOM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Sinetica/Netcom environmental monitoring sensor units for network equipment racks/enclosures
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll netcomEnvCurrentTemperature and netcomEnvCurrentHumidity and compare them against netcomEnvTemperatureUpperThreshold/netcomEnvTemperatureLowerThreshold and the equivalent humidity thresholds. A current-temperature reading exceeding the upper threshold would indicate cooling failure or an overheating cabinet, while netcomEnvHumidityCalibrationOffset can be adjusted if the humidity sensor reads consistently biased compared to a reference instrument.
What Can Be Monitored
- current temperature
- current humidity
- temperature high/low alarm thresholds
- humidity high/low alarm thresholds
- sensor calibration offsets
- monitoring enable/disable state
